in Polyester Dr. Quackenshaw presents a new gimmick, invented by Waters himself: the ODORAMA. This gimmick allows the viewers to smell the film and gives it a whole new dimension. The audience was given a ticket with scratch n sniff numbers to rub at certain scenes. When Divine farted you had to smell no 2, when one was ordering pizza, no 4, the skunk was no 6.
De family Fishpaw is the centre of this mucky comedy. Mother Francine (Divine) tries her best to uphold some of the decency in suburban Baltimore, while her husband runs a porntheatre and cheats. The neighbourhood constantly protest the pornindustry in front of family Fishpaws house. Their son also has a bad reputation. Hooked on drugs and with a dangerous foot-fetish, namely breaking womens feet. Their daughter is fascinated with the sex-education in school which fails to prevent a teenage pregnancy, knocked up by her white-trash boyfriend. When her son gets expelled and her husband openly keeps humiliating her, Francine breaks down straight to the bottle. But you cannot keep her down, time for a change a new life and a new lover.
