Mudzombies (Mangue Negro)
Director: Rodrigo Aragao
Country: Brasil Year: 2008 Length: 104 minutes Language: Brazillian Subtitles: English Cast: Ricardo Araujo, Kika de Oliveira, Walderrama dos Santos The dense mangroves of the Amazon are the perfect setting for horror. Many lives were lost in the treacherous undergrowth of this jungle, many have drowned in the swamps or got stuck in the mud. This has turned into a stinking black substance the viewers can almost smell. In a remote fishers community a girl lives with parents of poor health. Their only source of food is shellfish and clamps from the stinking mud. Everyone gets sick and dies. But the dead would not be the undead we know if they were not to rise once again. The only hope is a newcomer in the village that attacks the mud zombies with a rifle and an axe. Of course he is the one who gets to protect the poor little fisher girl. Brazilian zombie-horror is of a sole order and filmmaker Rodrigo Aragao the founder of this genre. Probably he has consumed quite an amount of Italian zombie-splatter before he constructed his debut. No one will eat clamps after this. Screening:
Saturday Sept. 12th 20.00 h. Electron Upper theatre
