‘Welcome’ is the director’s examination film and deals with the freedom and happiness of the nineties and the dangers of AIDS. “A very poetic little film”, says Frisch. After critic Hans Beerenkamp takes Frisch to the cleaners, the young director decides to do something creative with this humiliation. The result is ‘Selfcomplaint’. In this seventy minutes film Beerenkamp stands next to the projector that shows ‘Welcome’. In about twenty minutes the critic says what is all wrong with the film. In the remaining fifty minutes the director tries to drown himself in an aquarium. Frisch was devastated about his selfhatred: “The film is a completely ridiculous product”.
