Sea of dust - European premiere
Director: Scott Brunt
Country: VS Year: 2008 Length: Language: English Subtitle: non With: Tom Savini, Ingrid Pitt, Troy Holland Something strange is going on at the countryside. Stefan, a young doctor, is sent there to assist the local practitioner. This gives Stefan the opportunity to see his girlfriend and ask her father permission to marry her. However, the father sends him away and refuses to see him anymore.. On his way to his final destination Stefan meets a girl that is unconscious and brings her to the doctor. The inhabitants of the village act weird, as if they are in trance. When Stefan stays by the girl side that night, she tries to seduce him and eventually to kill him. It seems that the victims are psychologically weak and used by a priest named John, who wants to sacrifice all the weak people on the altar of doom. The priest also wants to persuade Stefan, but the latter resists. SEA OF DUST is a tribute to movies from the fifties and sixties from the famous Hammer Studio (we see Ingrid Pitt in a cameo role), an ode to the spheric lighting of Mario Bava's movies and it has a personal touch inspired by 9/11. Director and scriptwriter Scott Bunt experienced that the personalities of people around him changed all of a sudden by this interfering event. However, this aspect is not incorporated in the film in a gloomy way, but treated light-heartedly as in a B-movie in which exploding heads, posessed farmers and mythical monsters prevail.
