Undercover agent Rane is infiltrated in a famous gang. But when he has to kill someone to keep his identity he comes in conflict with his conscience. Rane quits his job and wants to escape with his pregnant wife. When the gang finds out who he really is they kill his wife, right before his eyes. The heavily wounded Rane seeks revenge and gets help from a lot of painkillers and cocaine. Deaden is a reaction on the cynical revengemovies from the seventies. Viel and his scriptwriter John Fallon were disappointed after they saw the Hollywood version of ‘The Punisher’. They wanted to make a non-compromised revengemovie that does not holdback for brutal violence, as it is all about a person who has no reason to live after he has lost everything he cares for. Nevertheless, there is some room for a wink. Such as the way in which Rane is shot in the head with an arrow. Fallon has been known for years on the internet with his website: ‘Arrow in the head’.
