Clay is een duistere horrorfilm die het zowel moet hebben van de angstaanjagende scènes als van het psychologische aspect van het verhaal. Clay is een seriemoordenaar die zijn slachtoffers willekeurig uitzoekt. Een man wordt natuurlijk niet van de ene op de andere dag een meedogenloze moordenaar, en daar komt de relatie tussen Clay en zijn vader om de hoek kijken. Clays vader heeft hem altijd de dood van zijn vrouw verweten, die stierf toen Clay werd geboren. Tussen Clay en zijn vader zal het ook nooit meer goed komen. Zeven jaar na Strawberry Estates (2001) nam Bonk eindelijk weer plaats in de regiestoel. Het resultaat is een horrorfilm die niet op goedkope schrikeffecten uit is, maar waar diepere lagen in verscholen liggen.

"CLAY is a unique oddity in the world of independent filmmaking: a horror film that prefers long takes and atmospheric storytelling over ADD-inspired editing and buckets of fake blood, though, when called for, it switches to multiple angle takes and other daring tricks to put you in the mind and eye of a serial killer.
