Grindhouse

During the second edition of BUT Film Festival we also pay attention to Grindhouse. The name 'Grindhouse' refers to the old cinemas in big American cities at which films, often of exploitative nature, were played all day long. Grindhouse is back in the spotlight thanks to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, who paid tribute to it with respectively Planet Terror (by Tarantino) and Death Proof, both presented under the moniker Grindhouse.

At the BUT Film Festival you can watch two Grindhouse classics: the women in prison flick The Big Doll House (Jack Hill, 1971), with Pam Grier cat-fighting her fellow female convicts, and the female revenge flick Savage Streets (Danny Steinmann, 1984), which stars Linda Blair (who 10 years earlier played the possessed girl from The Exorcist) as a woman hell-bent on killing the men who raped her deaf-mute sister.
