Simon Cathcart
Simon Cathcart is living in the United Kingdom, but was born in Australia. He also spent one year in Tokyo. According to what he says, the filmmaker, who isn't lacking a sense of humour, came to England "to get depressed".
In his new homeland, he started acting in stage plays and thus got to work with a large number of renowned British actors. At Westminster College, he received a degree in media, after which he started working as an acting coach. He coached more than 2000 actors. He was the acting coach for none other than Keanu Reeves for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Other people he taught the skills of the profession played in such TV and film productions as Sex in the City, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Mission Impossible and Tomb Raider. As a director he debuted in 2002 with the 26 minute film called Black Velvet, which he wrote and in which he plays one of the leads. In the film three guys gathered in a traditional Irish pub hope to do business with a just discovered oil field. But someone else spoils the game... Black Velvet was awarded at the Galway Film Festival with a Silver Award and was screened at the LA International Film Festival, among others. His second film, Stagknight (2007), screened at the festival, is his first feature film. Again he is playing one of the parts. He co-wrote the script with Robert Mercer. They both produced the film. One of the movies Mercer produced previously was the vampire flick Razor Blade Smile (1998) by Jake West, who was a guest at last year's BUT Film Festival with Evil Aliens. In Stagknight, a crazy parody on horror films and comedies from the seventies and eighties, a group of youngsters head out into the woods to go wild and also have a bachelor party. A couple of them carry out a ceremony and as a result awaken a Knight from the time of King Arthur. And this ancient warrior doesn't have the best of intentions... Cathcart himself likes to describe the film as Porkys meets Predator. Also check out www.stagknight.com |
